DECATUR — Justin Whitney (33), New Orleans, LA, formerly of Decatur and Michigan passed away in his home due to complications from Diabetes on July 15, 2013.

Justin was born September 24, 1979 in Decatur to Bruce and Carolyn Whitney. Justin graduated from Michigan State University where he studied Animal Behavior and had recently been accepted for employment by LSU. Justin was previously employed at Michigan State, Michigan, Tulane Universities and the Disney Stores.

Justin loved life, lived it well and had many interests and friends. He had a love of music and while at Michigan State played in the marching band and continued to play after graduation in the New Orleans Concert Band.

He was a firm believer of human rights and was active on several committees for HRC in New Orleans including the 2013 HRC Gala. HRC was very important to Justin and he made many great friends here.

For all that knew him Justin also loved all things Disney and had many fond memories of family vacations spent there. But most of all Justin loved people as can be seen from his Face Book page. He made friends where ever he went and touched so many lives in many ways.

Justin was preceded in death by his mother Carolyn in 2001. He is survived by his Father, Bruce Whitney and stepmother Debra Whitney, Brother, Jeremy Whitney, two step sisters, Jennifer (Desmond) Schoonover and Katharine Slingerland (Kevin Hammon), three nephews, Luchas, Chase and Conner Schoonover, Grandparents, Robert and Lillian Whitney, John and Donna Grove, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial celebration of Justin’s life will be on August 10, 2013 at First Congregational United Church of Christ at 3465 N. MacArthur Rd., Decatur, IL. Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 12:30 pm and a graveside service following. At 1:30 pm a memorial luncheon will follow in the church’s fellowship hall to celebrate his life. All are welcome to join and share stories or pictures.
