Stan Kenton - Initiated in 1961

Stanley Newcomb "Stan" Kenton (December 15, 1911 – August 25, 1979)

Pianist, composer, and arranger who led a highly innovative, influential, and often controversial American jazz orchestra. In later years he was widely active as an educator.

While Stan was at MSU working with the Music Department's jazz program, the borthers of Phi Mu Alpha awarded him an Honorary Membership (August 1, 1961).
