Gordon retired in 1989 after teaching 41 years in the Fort Wayne Indiana Community Schools as a grade and middle school instrumental music specialist.
He was a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra for 51 years, playing violin and viola.
He taught for 16 summers as a viola instructor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Professional organizations included the American String Teachers Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the Music Educators National Conference and the Fort Wayne Musicians Union.
He was a member of the First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne.
After living in Fort Wayne til 1998 he and his wife Sara moved permanently to their summer home on Lake Michigan near Stony Lake.
All four of their children are in involved in music careers, with two having graduated from Michigan State University.
